Tauba (तौबा)

Origin: Persian

Tauba is an Urdu word, it means “repentance” in English, while in Hindi it’s called as “paschataap/पश्चाताप.”

For eg: “Tauba main vyah karke pachtaya…” which means, “Oh god, I’m regretting after getting married…”

However, the word “Tauba tauba” means “God forbid/Oh my god” in English, while in Hindi it’s called as “bhagvaan na kare/भगवान् न करे, he mere bhagwaan/हे मेरे भगवान्.”

For eg: “Tauba tauba, kitni khoobsurat aankhein hain uski…” which means, “Oh my god, what a beautiful eyes she has…”
