Taras (तरस)

Origin: Persian

Taras is an Urdu word, it means “fear/terror” in English, while in Hindi it’s called as “darna/aatank.”

Taras also means, “longing/compassion/pity/mercy” in English, while in Hindi it’s called as “daya/दया, daya-bhav/दया-भाव, karuna/करुणा.”

For eg: “Sunne ko dil taras raha hai…” which means, “the heart is longing to listen…”
