Artist Biography
Sonakshi Sinha was born on 02-06-1987 in Mumbai in the state of Maharashtra, India. She is an Indian Film Actress, Voice Artist, Singer, Model, Television Personality, Fashion Designer, Costume Designer, Philanthropist & daughter of veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha & actress Poonam Sinha. She is best known for her work in Bollywood movies as well as Tamil cinema.
Sonakshi Sinha pursued her education at Arya Vidya Mandir and studied designing at Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University in Fashion Designing. She started her career as a costume designer, designing the costumes for the movie Mera Dil Leke Dekho in 2005.
She made her acting debut in the 2010 film named Dabangg starring opposite actor Salman Khan which gave a kick start to her career as it emerged out to be an all-time blockbuster. She was really passionate about this opportunity and went on to lose 30kg to play her part in the film. For her role, she was awarded the Filmfare award for best debutant female. After her first film, there was no looking back for her and she went on to play many characters opposite many well-known actors and superstars in the film industry.
In 2014, she made her acting debut in Tamil cinema with director K. S. Ravikumar’s film Lingaa opposite superstar Rajinikanth & actress Anushka Shetty.
She has also given her voice for the Hindi version of RIO2 movie and featured in the music video the Yo Yo Honey Singh. In 2015, she has sung a song “Let’s Celebrate” along with Imran Khan in Bollywood movie “Tevar”. In the same year, she had given her fans a pleasant surprise by releasing her debut song“ Aaj Mood Ishqholic Hai” in collaboration to meet bros displaying her multi-talented personality. She featured in movies like Akira, Noor in which she was the sole lead performer and has proved to the world that she can carry a movie on her own shoulders and does not require the fan power as other movie stars possess to make her film hit. Her recent releases include Total Dhamaal, Khandaani Shafakhana, Kalank, and Mission Mangal. She will be next seen in Dabangg 3 and Bhuj: The Pride of India.
She is an animal lover, acts for a PETA campaign and advocates for the adoption and sterilization of dogs and cats.
Sinha has played the romantic interest of the male protagonists in several top-grossing action-dramas, including Rowdy Rathore (2012), Son of Sardaar (2012), Dabangg 2 (2012) and Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014), though she was criticized for taking up roles that offered her limited scope. She gained critical acclaim for her portrayal of a woman suffering from tuberculosis in the romantic drama Lootera (2013), for which she received a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress.
She followed this initial success by starring in a series of commercial failures, with the exception of Mission Mangal (2019), in which she had a supporting role.
