He Is Indian Signer. Salim Merchant (Salim) is an Indian composer and singer. He composes music with his brother Sulaiman Merchant and composed for more than 40 films till now. The duo has been associated with films like Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Chak De! India, Mardaani, Heroine and many more. Salim also appeared in Television as a judge for the Fifth season of Indian Idol.
Musical duo and brother Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant drew inspiration from their father Sadruddin Merchant, who led the Ismaili Scouts Orchestra in India, and pursued a career in music. While Sulaiman took up tabla training under musical maestros such as Taufiq Qureshi and Ustad Zakir Hussain, Salim went on to master piano at the Trinity College of Music, London.
In 2010, the award-winning duo recorded the FIFA World Cup anthem titled `Africa – You`re A Star` in collaboration with South African singer Loyiso Bala and Kenyan singer and songwriter Eric Wainaina.
Known for their soulful and Sufi style of music, the duo have is best remembered for composing the music of movies such as Iqbal, Dor, Fanaa, Chak De! India, and Kurbaan. However, they have also composed commercial hit songs from movies like Dhoom. Race, Fashion, Dostana, Band Baaja Baaraat, Love Aaj Kal, I Hate Luv Storys, Cocktail, 102 Not Out, The Accidental Prime Minister, Race 3 and Prawaas.
